Book reports

I'm still way behind in my efforts to read 50 books in 2011, but I have managed to squeeze in a few more.

Star Island, by Carl Hiaason. Another fun romp through the seedy world of southern Florida.

Mansfield Park, by Jane Austen. The only Austen I hadn't read. And I had to. Because. One must read all Austen novels, or one isn't complete. It is a truth universally acknowledged.

Lady Susan, by Jane Austen. Okay, I hadn't read this one either, but it's more of a short story than a novel. An entertaining read, by the way.

The Jane Austen Book Club, by Karen Joy Fowler. Now you know why I was catching up on Austen! I've wanted to read this book ever since I watched the delightful movie based upon it. The book was also delightful.

And that brings me up to a total of 28 for the year, with 22 left to go.  I need to take a week or two and just read...

Update on my reading list - 2011

It's been a while since I've updated my reading list, and honestly, it's been a while since I've read a book.  Lots of articles and such being read here, but not much reading for fun lately.  I'm going to have to do something about that soon.

If You Ask Me: (And of Course You Won't)If You Ask Me: (And of Course You Won't), by Betty White.  What can I say, Betty is a national treasure!  Now I want to go back and read some of her other autobiographies (she has several, evidently).  And I'm on a mission to see every movie she's been in.

Spinning ForwardSpinning Forward, by Terri DuLong.  I picked this one up because it had a main character that knits.  It was a fun, light summer read, perfect for the beach.

Casting AboutCasting About, by Terri DuLong.  The follow up to Spinning Forward.  Not as good as her first book. But there was still knitting, so it was okay.

The Primal Blueprint: Reprogram your genes for effortless weight loss, vibrant health, and boundless energy (Primal Blueprint Series)The Primal Blueprint, by Mark Sisson.  You knew this one had to be coming, right?  If you want to try the Primal lifestyle, this is the book that brings it all together.

That brings me up to 24 for the year.  I'm shooting for at least 50 books read in 2011, so I'm a little behind.  It looks like a trip to the library is in order!

My summer reading list...continued

The summer has gotten off to a great start, and I've had the opportunity to catch up on some reading.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's NestThe Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson.  The final book of the Millennium series.  This one picks up immediately after the previous book ends, and ties up the loose ends from the previous two books.

Run!: 26.2 Stories of Blisters and Bliss
Run! 26.2 Stories of Blisters and Bliss by Dean Karnazes.  A quick read, lots of fun, and at times inspirational , whether you run or not.

Dirty Harriet (Harlequin Next)Dirty Harriet by Miriam Auerbach.  The debut novel by a local author.  The story was a little loose, but I really enjoyed the local references.  The description of the typical "Boca Babe" was spot on.

That brings me up to a total of 20 so far this year.

The countdown is on...

Today is the next to last day of the Blogathon.  I think I'm gonna make it!

Writing every day has meant a lot to me.  I hope I can keep it up once the calendar rolls over to June.

Just so this isn't a total filler post:

InfidelI just finished Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali.  An amazing memior of an amazing person.  It gave me a lot to think about.

Grand total: 18

Another book

The Girl Who Played with Fire (Vintage Crime/Black Lizard)With summer about to officially kick off this weekend, I just finished The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson.  I only marginally enjoyed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and had my doubts about this one at first. But I warmed up to it and by the midway point, could barely put it down.  Now I need to get to the library before it closes for the holiday and pick up the last of the Millennium series, The Girl Who Kicked a Hornet's Nest.

For those keeping count, that makes 17 for the year.

Book

I took some time to relax, nurse my cold, and read this weekend.

Best Friends Forever: A NovelBest Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner.  Love her writing, but didn't love this book.  She has many more wonderful novels to choose from, though.

The War of the Worldsby H.G. Wells.

The Invisible ManThe Invisible Man by H. G. Wells.

Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and IndonesiaEat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.  Much better than the movie.

My Life in FranceMy Life in France by Julia Child.  A must read if you are a fan of Julia Child or enjoyed the movie Julie and Julia.

The Automatic Millionaire: A Powerful One-Step Plan to Live and Finish Rich

Tea Time for the Traditionally Built: A No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Novel (10)Tea Time for the Traditionally Built by Alexander McCall Smith.  Also watched the HBO series based on the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series of novels.  Simply awesome!

So that's 9 more books for a grand total of 15 for the year.  A quick look at the calendar tells me I'm about 3 behind for the year.  But with four books on the coffee table right now, waiting to be read, I'm comfortable with my pace.  Don't want to burn out too early in the year.  :)
